PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT AS A LIFE SKILL

Life skills help an individual find his/her way through life itself. After facing an exhausting pandemic, youngsters have had enough! It has set a turmoil in everyone’s mental state, especially youngsters who missed out on memorable school years, hanging out with friends, and numerous outdoor activities. The important growing years of their lives were spent behind locked doors with forceful exposure to addictive gadgets. Tired! That is what every youngster is saying nowadays. The ongoing education system tilts a little towards book data rather than knowledge for and about life. In this day and age, youngsters need to be street smart.

Personality is what you speak, write, behave and think. It is you, a part of you, and what others see you as. The first thing that people notice about you before even knowing your name.

Factors affecting personality

Routine – The absence of a routine can gradually make them irresponsible and lethargic. Although, they aren’t to be fully blamed as far as social or global situations are concerned. Discipline is one of the most admirable qualities one should have while growing up - not getting late, going to bed early, obeying values, etc. To maintain discipline, complete your work/homework before the due date, go to bed before ten o’clock at night, and don’t forget to do at least one physical activity daily.

Choices - We all are different from each other. We all have our own choices, likes, dislikes, and preferences. Your friend might be an extrovert who loves to meet new people while you probably don’t enjoy it that much. You like to listen to soft, soothing music while your sibling prefers fast and rock music. These things make up our personality.

Family background - Youngsters go through the quickest of changes in their initial years of becoming an adult. These changes can be quite staggering and those thresholds leave a mark on our minds. For example, an individual who grew up with controlling or very strict parents might rebel in their early adulthood or even teenage years, a traumatic event - death of parents, or degrading economic condition of the household that cannot fulfill necessities can affect the child in various ways. Heredity and family upbringing is one of the major factors that induce different shades of one’s character.

Significance of personality development

Survival –Small things like buying your favourite pastry, helping out your friend, or making a plan to go out, all require skills, sometimes we aren’t aware of. We reflect what we learn subconsciously. Personality shoots up our ability to deal with difficulties. Skills are always useful and they navigate us towards our goals. Every individual should know the mundane skills of speaking, writing, and reading for daily survival. Youngsters are new to the real world and new experiences are often scary.

Rapport – Relationships require work mainly in the form of understanding and communication. Youngsters sometimes rush relationships and forget to contribute their part. Be mindful, talk to your family and friends, and ask them about their day. Read good books, and motivate yourself and your peers. What you surround yourself with, is what you start absorbing.

“What you think, you become.
What you feel, you attract.
What you imagine, you create.”
Buddha

Career – Who wouldn’t want to have a good career? All our dreams can come true if we channel our hard work more into changing our habits than changing the problem. Knowledge is not all that is needed to have a good future. Money is important but it has its limits. Respect and experience are also to be earned. Workplaces look for responsible, hard-working, and ambitious employees that have a good learning attitude. An individual is quick to be judged by people who deem personality based on speech, appearance, work ethic, etc. People skills are the most beneficial here.

truCSR X personality development

Fun summer is on its way! The Summer for Transformation is for underprivileged youngsters by truCSR in collaboration with the best-selling author and educator - Megha Bajaj. It is an initiative to engrave those precious skills in children who don’t have access to such opportunities. The project aims to help children recognize their potential and utilize it significantly, develop self-image, and all the aspects needed for them to find their place in this fast-paced world.

Youngsters from underprivileged communities are unable to compete with their peers belonging to a rather privileged background due to unrefined skills and fear of incompetence. Various notable speakers from TEDX, entrepreneurs, and role models across the globe have come together to provide youngsters with guidance in becoming the best version of themselves through certain interesting and enjoyable tips and tricks. Some speakers share their own rags to riches stories with the kids that inspired them a great deal.

No more boring summers! Fun activities like tongue twisters, creative speech, writing, musicals, etc. imply a wonderful learning curve. And the Summer of Transformation comprises all of these, ensuring youngsters actively participate and realize their potential. One such activity was for youngsters to describe their favourite food in the most creative way. Initially, the responses were simpler and boring but as they moved forward, they came up with interesting and innovative descriptions of different varieties of food that made one’s mouth water. Numerous hands raised, almost every child sported a beautiful smile through their screens, eager to be a part of the fun learning. Those little eyes have grown very fond of our key speaker Megha Bajaj and never miss a chance to raise their hands and speak their mind in all following sessions. truCSR is on a mission to impart the four basic life skills – public speaking, writing, people skills, and communication.

The best part of the personality is originality. Nobody is like you. Every individual has a hidden talent that is worthy of ruling the world. Be your true self, do what you like, follow your passion, and avoid mimicking others’ actions. Through these skills, you will not only touch the sky but also learn to conquer it!
